Along with Follow That Camel, this film’s title was not preceded by ‘Carry On’ although it was deemed to be in the series.
Peter Gilmore had a prominent supporting role as Robespierre.

Notes:
Based on the story Beau Geste, this along with Don’t Lose Your Head were the only 2 films in the series that ‘Carry On’ did not preceed the title.
In attempt to break into the US market, American Phil Silvers was brought in as Sid James’ replacement. His character was almost identical to that of Silvers’ long running TV series Bilko.
Anita Harris made the first of her 2 appearances
Peter Gilmore once again played a supporting role.
Location scenes were shot in and around Camber Sands, Swakeleys House and Osterley Park House.

Frankie Howerd was billed as the star of this and Carry On Up the Jungle, his only appearances. He was offered more Carry On roles but had to turn them down due to other commitments.
Peter Gilmore made is 7th appearance in a supporting role. This time as an ambulance driver.
Other notable supporting actors included Peter Jones better known for TV’s The Rag Trade. He played the part of the Chaplain.
Dandy Nichols(Else Garnett in TV’s Till Death Do Us Part) played the wife of Sid James character.
Deryck Guyler(Mr Potter in TV’s Please Sir!) appeared as a surgeon in 1 scene.
Brian Wilde(Mr Barrowclough in TV’s Porridge & Foggy Dewhurst in TV’s last of the Summer Wine) appeared as salesman measuring Frankie Howerd’s bed.
Pat Coombs also appeared as a patient.
Location scenes were shot in and around Maidenhead, Uxbridge and in Westbourne Street in London

Dilys Laye made her final Carry On appearance.
Betty Marsden made her 2nd and final appearance but this time in a more prominent role as Terry Scott’s wife.
Anna Karen(Olive from On the Buses) had a minor role as one of the girls from ‘Chayste Place’.
It was the 2nd appearance for Valerie Leon who was more famous for the Hai Karate after shave ads. Her first appearance was in Up the Khyber but that was a minor role.
Location scenes were shot in and around Pinewood Green, Maidenhead High Street and Black Park. The exterior of the Everyman Cinema in Gerards Cross was used for the first scene and Heatherden Hall was used once again this time for ‘Chayste Place’

Michael Caine’s wife Shakira appeared in a non speaking role as one of the wives of Sid James’ character.
Location scenes were shot in and around Windsor and Maidenhead. Heatherden Hall was once again used for exterior shots of the clinic.
